(1) Click add affine transformation to get the first affine transformation in the design area. Then use the horizontal scale tool horizontal scale tool to expand it to a scale factor of about 0.55. To check the scale factor, click show IFS Code and look at the first number. It should be near 0.55. Once it is close, use the translate tool translation tool to move it just a tiny bit to the right.

(2) Click add affine transformationto get a second affine transformation. Then use the vertical scale tool to expand it to a scale factor of about 0.65. Again, show the IFS code to check your numbers. This time, you need to look at the fourth number of the second transformation, though. Once it is satisfactory, give it a slight vertical shear vertical shear, and rotate it rotation tool about 30 degrees clockwise. Finally, translate it to the upper right corner as the right half of the leaves of the tree.

(3) Add a third affine transformation. Again give it a vertical stretch to about 0.65 and a horizontal shrinking to about 0.43. Then give it a slight vertical shear, and rotate it about 45 degrees counterclockwise. Finally, place it toward the upper left corner as the left half of the leaves of the tree.

(4) Add a fourth affine transformation. Give it a horizontal shrinking to about 0.1, and rotate it just a few degrees counterclockwise. Then give it a small vertical shear, and translate it into place as the first half of the trunk of the tree.

(5) Add a fifth and final affine transformation. This time, after giving it a horizontal shrinking to about 0.1, and a small vertical shear, rotate it about 180 degrees. Finally, place it as the second half of the trunk of the tree.

Now that all the pieces are approximately in place, tweak them until you have a tree you like! Yours will not be exactly like the demonstration, nor will it be exactly like the one in the book. That's OK, though, the idea is to be creative.
